چکیده

In this report, a partitioned time stepping algorithm for transient flow in a porous medium coupled to a free flow in embedded conduits is analyzed. The coupled flow is modeled by the fully evolutionary Stokes-Darcy problem. This method requires only solve one, uncoupled Stokes and Darcy sub-physics and subdomain per time step. On the interface between the matrix and conduit, Beavers-Joseph interface conditions, instead of the simplified Beavers-Joseph-Saffman condition, are imposed. Under a modest time step restriction of the form 4t ≤ C where C = C(physical parameters) we prove stability of the method. We also derive error estimates. Numerical tests illustrate the validity of the theoretical results.

Finite Element Approximations for Stokes-Darcy Flow with Beavers-Joseph Interface Conditions

Numerical solutions using finite element methods are considered for transient flow in a porous medium coupled to free flow in embedded conduits. Such situations arise, for example, for groundwater flows in karst aquifers. The coupled flow is modeled by the Darcy equation in a porous medium and the Stokes equations in the conduit domain. On the interface between the matrix and conduit, Beavers–J...

Coupled Stokes-Darcy Model with Beavers-Joseph Interface Boundary Condition

We investigate the well-posedness of a coupled Stokes-Darcy model with Beavers-Joseph interface boundary conditions. In the steady-state case, the well-posedness is established under the assumption of small coefficient in the Beavers-Joseph interface boundary condition. In the time-dependent case, the well-posedness is established via appropriate time discretization of the problem and a novel s...

A Non-iterative, Domain Decomposition Method with Different Time Step Sizes for the Evolutionary Stokes-darcy Model

This report analyzes a partitioned time stepping algorithm, meaning a non-iterative, domain decomposition method, which allows different time steps in the fluid region and the porous region for the fully evolutionary Stokes-Darcy problem. The method presented requires only one, uncoupled Stokes and Darcy sub-physics and sub-domain solve per time step. Under a time step restriction of the form 4...

Partitioned Penalty Methods for the Evolutionary Stokes-darcy-transport Problem

There has been a surge of work on models for coupling surface-water with groundwater flows which is at its core the Stokes-Darcy problem, as well as methods for uncoupling the problem into subdomain, subphysics solves. The resulting (Stokes-Darcy) fluid velocity is important because the flow transports contaminants. The numerical analysis and algorithm development for the evolutionary transport...
